Up-Front Inspection Fee
This allows us to look at the drive and evaluate the status of the drive. The deliverable from this process is a phone call or an email, where we may say:
- The hard drive is readable - here are instructions on how to read it; or
- The hard drive is not yet readable, but may be readable after a relatively non-invasive special step; or
- The hard drive is readable but does not contain the required information; or
- The hard drive is not readable, but data may be recovered using an invasive procedure.
Packing Instructions
Express shipping is included in the Up-Front Inspection Fee. After you have contacted one of TCEG's representatives and completed all the paperwork, you will need to follow these specific packing instructions to ensure that your hard drive arrives at our facilities intact.
-
Remove hard drive and do not detach any wires, brackets, or accessories unless otherwise instructed. For instructions on how to remove a hard drive, search for your make and model in Google.
-
Place the hard drive in an anti-static bag. If you do not have an anti-static bag, use a similar protective material, such as bubble-wrap or styrofoam wrap.
-
Place the hard drive in the centre of a box with at least 3 inches of crumpled newspaper surrounding all 6 sides. Take care to use only crumpled paper, as packing styrofoam can generate considerable static during the shipping process, which can further damage the hard drive.
-
Seal the box with tape, and wait for our courier to arrive.
Estimate
Logical (level 1) data recovery can be done fairly inexpensively. This is drives that cannot be recovered using software alone, but which can be recovered using PC-3000 equipment, but without needing to diagnose or fix electronic or pcb problems, replace heads, or fix seized motors. Call us for pricing if you think your drive requires higher-level data recovery.
There is an up-front non-refundable charge to try our service.
Non-Invasive Recovery Procedures
In relatively simple recovery procedures, the next step involves a scan of the hard drive using special diagnostic software, or possibly a replacement of the circuit board controlling the hard drive. Call for price quotation. Or, try our free online estimation tool.
Invasive Recovery Procedures
In some cases, it is better to open the drive, carefully move the platters into another drive, and scan the contents of the platters onto a third drive. Call for price quotation. Try our free online data recovery estimation tool.
Special Low-Level Disk Software Such as Norton GoBack
This software causes additional difficulties for our procedures. No charge if no data is recovered. Call for price quotation. Or try our free online hard drive crash data recovery estimation tool.
DVDs and CDs
TCEG's nominal charge is $100 for recovery of data from damaged, scratched, or warped CDs or DVDs.
Floppy Disks
TCEG charges $50 to recover data from floppy disks.
Data Recovery Companies
TCEG offers access to hard-to-find hard drive stock in Toronto, Ontario for the purposes of repairing hard drives. Call to inquire.
Old Hard Disks
TCEG maintains extensive stocks of old and outdated hard drives for the purposes of conducting repairs.
Drives Not Recognized by BIOS
TCEG utilizes special hardware to diagnose and fix most hard drive BIOS issues.
Drives Not Spinning Up
Moving platters requires special procedures, and TCEG communicates what is happening to your drive in these procedures, including the risks and potential rewards, better than most companies.
Operating System Not Loading
If the drive is recognized by the bios, but unrecognizable by the operating system, and, for example, if Windows will not load while the drive is attached, then TCEG can recover the data using special software.
